Regional Public Health Laboratory

The Western UP Regional Public Health Laboratory began operations in September 2021 to increase public health laboratory testing capacity in the State of Michigan.  We are a Biosafety Level 2 facility providing high- complexity clinical testing in the specialties of Molecular, Clinical Chemistry, and Immunoassay.   The laboratory operates as a Division of the Western UP Health Department and is located in Hancock, Michigan. 

Western UP Regional Public Health Laboratory is one of six laboratories within the Michigan Regional Public Health Laboratory Network; receiving leadership and guidance from the Michigan Bureau of Laboratories.  We are committed to providing low-cost, timely and accurate high-complexity testing services to diagnose communicable diseases and increase the speed at which health professionals can respond to and treat disease outbreaks.

Services Requiring a Physician Order:

Due to potential treatment implications, the following lab tests must be ordered by a qualified health professional. Orders may be faxed to the lab or paper orders may accompany a patient. Phlebotomy services are available onsite; courier services are available by request.
